Membership of the Society

The membership of the society shall be in the following categories:

The criteria for membership may be reviewed, revised, or amended from time to time by the General Body of the Society, as it may deem fit


1. Life Membership of the Society shall be open to:

(a) Medical Postgraduates of Indian origin, from any discipline, who have a demonstrated interest in osteoarthritis, subject to the requirement of at least one original article related to osteoarthritis published in an indexed journal.

(b) Basic Scientists of Indian origin with a demonstrated interest in the field of osteoarthritis, subject to the requirement of at least one original article related to osteoarthritis published in an indexed journal.

Provided, however, that the publication requirement shall stand waived for the first five hundred (500) members enrolled. Life Members shall be entitled to exercise the right to vote or stand for election only upon completion of one (1) year from the date of their admission as Life Members.

2. Associate Members: Associate Membership of the Society shall be open to medical graduate students of Indian origin, non-medical graduates of Indian origin, social workers, physiotherapists, counselors and nurses of Indian origin who have a demonstrated interest in the field of osteoarthritis. 

Only medical graduates of Indian origin and individuals of Indian origin who have completed a postgraduate degree in basic sciences shall be eligible to apply for Life Membership upon completion of their postgraduate qualification, subject to submission of the degree certificate and payment of the difference in fees between Associate and Life Membership. 

Associate Members shall not have the right to vote, nor shall they be eligible to stand for election to any office of the Society.

3. International Members: International Life Membership of the Society shall be open to -

(a) Medical Postgraduates of non-Indian origin, from any discipline, who have a demonstrated interest in osteoarthritis, subject to the requirement of at least one original article related to osteoarthritis published in an indexed journal.

(b) Basic Scientists of non-Indian origin with a demonstrated interest in the field of osteoarthritis, subject to the requirement of at least one original article related to osteoarthritis published in an indexed journal.

Provided, however, that the publication requirement shall stand waived for the first five hundred (500) International Life Members enrolled.

4. International Associate Members: International Associate Membership of the Society shall be open to medical graduate students of non-Indian origin, non-medical graduates of non-Indian origin, social workers of non-Indian origin, physiotherapists of non-Indian origin, counselors of non Indian origin and nurses of non-Indian origin who have a demonstrated interest in the field of osteoarthritis. Only medical graduates of non-Indian origin and individuals of non-Indian origin who have completed a postgraduate degree in basic sciences shall be eligible to apply for International Life Membership upon completion of their postgraduate qualification, subject to submission of the degree certificate and payment of the difference in fees between International Associate and International Life Membership

5. Fellows: Fellows of the Society shall be selected from among the Members of the Society, subject to the following conditions - 

  1. The applicant shall have a minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience after completion of postgraduate qualification.
  2. The applicant shall have been a Member of the Society for not less than five (5) years.
  3. The applicant shall have made significant contributions to research and/or teaching in the field of osteoarthritis.
  4. The applicant shall have contributed to the advancement of the Society through scientific or organizational work.
  5. The applicant shall submit a formal application for Fellowship, along with all requisite supporting documents and prescribed fees.
  6. The final decision regarding the conferment of Fellowship shall rest with the Executive Committee.
  7. Fellowship, once conferred, shall be for life and shall be formally awarded during the National Conference of the Society.

6. International Fellows: International Fellows of the Society shall be selected from among the International Members of the Society, subject to the following conditions - 

  1. The applicant shall have a minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience after completion of postgraduate qualification.
  2. The applicant shall have been an International Member of the Society for not less than five (5) years.
  3. The applicant shall have made significant contributions to research and/or teaching in the field of osteoarthritis.
  4. The applicant shall have contributed to the advancement of the Society through scientific or organizational work.
  5. The applicant shall submit a formal application for International Fellowship, along with all requisite supporting documents and prescribed fees.
  6. The final decision regarding the conferment of International Fellowship shall rest with the Executive Committee.
  7. International Fellowship, once conferred, shall be for life and shall be formally awarded during the National Conference of the Society.

7. Honorary Fellows: The association may invite eminent persons to  be honorary fellows of the society to the satisfaction of the EC

8. Corporate Membership: Corporate Membership of the Society shall be open to any corporate body upon payment of the annual fee. A Corporate Member shall be entitled to nominate two (2) persons to represent the corporate body as Corporate Members of the Society. The nominated persons shall enjoy the privileges of Corporate Membership, including waiver of conference registration fees for the Society’s National Conference, for the duration of their nomination

9. Any other category that the General Body may decide on the recommendation of the Executive Committee.

10. All members named in the Memorandum of Association of the Society at the time of its formation, or will join the Society upto 30th April 2017 will be called Founder members of the Society and shall be life members.
